Tamannaah walks for AJSK in Mughal sehra inspired outfit

After channeling Radha in a successful (yet controversial) campaign for Karan Torani, Tamannaah Bhatia is back as a muse for ace designer duo Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. Last night, the Stree 2 actor walked the ramp in a Mughal ‘sehra’ inspired ensemble, handcrafted with rubies, pearls, and emeralds.

The iconic outfit included a “kurti with delicate pearl tassels flowing at the hem and a crushed gharara paired with two bandhani dupattas.” The highlight of the ensemble lay in the intricate gota, sequins, and antique zardozi work, along with delicate real pearl tassels adorning the sleeves around the edges.

“Sehra refers to a traditional headdress or veil worn by grooms in Indian weddings, symbolizing blessings, protection from the evil eye, and humility. Typically made of flowers, beads, pearls, or tassels, it is an integral part of Hindu wedding rituals, particularly during the sehra bandi ceremony,” said stylist Jhanvi Pallicha. The sehra also adds grandeur to the groom’s attire, with its design varying by region and community.

She added that a Mughal sehra, inspired by the opulence of the Mughal Empire, stands out for its royal and luxurious design. Unlike the simpler floral Hindu sehra, Pallicha shared that the Mughal version features gold and silver chains, precious gemstones, and pearl tassels cascading over the groom’s face, symbolizing princely elegance and modesty. The base is often crafted from rich fabrics like silk or velvet, adorned with intricate embroidery.

Bhatia opted for a tightly pulled-back bun adorned with a wreath of fresh flowers in shades of orange and red, complementing her outfit. Dewy skin, flushed cheeks, a hint of coral on her lips, and mascara-coated lashes added the right balance to her glam look.

“What’s beautiful about their work is that he can put all these different aspects and make it look cohesive,” the actor told Vogue India in a Look Test video. Speaking of her pre-show rituals, Bhatia revealed that she does her sadhana in the morning, which helps her feel “calm and composed.” Her other wellness ritual is to “have a good time,” which according to her, is so important to enjoy and be aware at the moment.
