As little girls, we all dream of growing up and wearing iconic costumes from our favourite films to recreate that childhood nostalgia. Our Bollywood stars are no different. Tara Sutaria recently recreated a famous look from the popular movie Maid in Manhattan (2002), paying homage to actor Jennifer Lopez’s character in the story.
The costume featured a light peach strapless floor-length gown, paired with a floral diamond choker and matching earrings. A pulled-back bun and a sleek, sparkly bag kept the look chic and elegant. For her makeup, Tara Sutaria chose to keep it fresh and dewy, with hints of pink on her lips and cheeks, a wash of bronzer for a sun-kissed glow, classic eyeliner, and well-defined brows that shaped the face.
“An homage to one of my favourite costumes worn by an actress in film, ever..Jennifer Lopez in “ Maid in Manhattan “ ✨ She was/is the epitome of elegance and glamour and I have to thank @gauriandnainika for recreating our version of the evening gown for me.. Make up by me✨” she mentioned in the caption of her Instagram post.
As far as evening looks go, the classic costume from Maid in Manhattan is the perfect blueprint if you like fuss-free ensembles that still turn heads.

Like Sutaria, Bollywood stars time and again like to celebrate and pay tribute to icons they grew up watching and admiring.
Alia Bhatt as Rekha from Silsila
For example, during the re-release party for Umrao Jaan in June, Alia Bhatt recreated the classic look of Rekha from the film Silsila. Styled by Rhea Kapoor, she had worn a blush pink sari by Tarun Tahiliani as an “ode to a living legend”. According to her, it was a tribute woven in silk, because legends never go out of style.
Janhvi Kapoor as Britney Spears
Or when Janhvi Kapoor chose to dress like Britney Spears in a head-to-toe Miu Miu ensemble to pay tribute to the American singer. Styled by cousin Rhea Kapoor, the Param Sundari star exuded rockstar chic in a pleated mini kilt and polo shirt, paired with a brown leather jacket, belt and matching brown handbag. Pointed kitten slingback heels and knee-high socks—a nod to Spears’ iconic look —were her accessories of choice. Sleek, pulled-back hair tied in a spiky bun, and dark black frames completed her look.

“It’s my homage to Britney Spears,” Janhvi, who claims to be a “big Britney fan!”, told British Vogue. “I’ve never met anyone who isn’t… and if I did, I would treat them with suspicion,” she had added.
Whether it’s wearing hot pink Barbie-coded ensembles or slipping into five yards inspired by Bollywood veterans, it feels good to let our inner child out at times.
