Will Tesla Model Y Auto Pilot feature work in India?

Tesla’s famed and rather controversial Auto Pilot feature has been made available to Indian customers as an optional extra for Rs 6 lakh. However, it is important to note that, apart from a few basic ADAS features, most Auto Pilot capabilities can’t be activated and used right away. The Tesla India website states that the full capability will be made available ‘in future updates’, and that the currently available capabilities ‘require active driver supervision’. It also notes that the activation of further features is dependent on achieving regulatory approval.

Is Tesla Model Y a 7-seater model?

No, the Tesla Model Y is a 5-seater model. However, at nearly 4.8 meters in length, the Model Y is a pretty large vehicle, larger than even a Kia EV6. That translates to a very spacious second row seat with ample space for even 6ft people. It also gets a cavernous boot with 822-litres of space.

Is the Tesla Model Y an SUV?

The Model Y isn’t an SUV, but more of a crossover. In fact, with a three-box-like design, it appears more like a high-riding coupe. Moreover, lack of rugged design elements like body cladding and a modest ground clearance of 167mm (unladen) doesn’t particularly help its case to be an SUV.

Is the Tesla Model Y worth the price?

Being brought as a full import, the Model Y is attracting nearly 100 percent import duties. It is priced nearly double of what it is priced in some other markets. In India, it finds itself in the company of entry-level luxury EVs like the Mercedes-Benz EQA and Volvo EC40, while some others are even more affordable.

Where can you buy Tesla in India?

Is Tesla supercharging network present in India?

Tesla’s Supercharging network is as much a part of the Tesla experience as are the vehicles themselves. To that end, Tesla says it will soon have four V4 Supercharger stations in Mumbai (Lower Parel, Bandra Kurla, Navi Mumbai and Thane), each with four charging points, and the same pattern will be followed in Delhi at Aerocity, Saket, Gurugram and Noida. Also, expect Tesla to install Superchargers on popular routes out of the city for both Mumbai and Delhi, as it has done in markets around the world. The American company also says it will build after-sales service centres in Mumbai and Delhi, and invest in delivery hubs, workplaces and logistics to support owners.
