Sanidhya Chaturvedi, a 25-year-old innovator from Satna, has turned a bold career choice into a remarkable entrepreneurial success. An Electrical Engineering graduate from IIT Madras, he declined a lucrative job offer to launch Folium Sensing Private Limited, a start-up at the forefront of optical fibre sensing technology. In just one year, his Chennai-based company has achieved a valuation of Rs 25 crore, secured high-value projects with national impact, and earned recognition from top industry bodies and even the National Security Advisor.
A former student of St Michael’s School in Satna, Chaturvedi completed both his B.Tech and M.Tech at IIT Madras in 2025. During his academic tenure, he co-founded Folium Sensing, introducing a breakthrough application of optical fibres for sensing, an area traditionally limited to internet and communication use. Supported by IIT Madras faculty and drawing on 25 years of research, the company’s technology integrates five patents under Chaturvedi’s name and is capable of detecting sound, temperature, and strain over long distances with high accuracy.
Since its incorporation on August 6, 2024, Folium Sensing has secured significant contracts, including an Rs 18-crore agreement with GAIL to detect oil and gas pipeline leaks. The company is also working with the Indian Army on border surveillance projects, a collaboration that saw Chaturvedi present the technology to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on the Indo-China border.
Other initiatives include railway and roadway bridge monitoring, with the ability to detect potential structural threats up to 1.5 kilometres in advance, as well as mine safety projects with Tata Steel and monitoring systems for industrial conveyor belts.
In its first year alone, the company has won 25 national awards, among them the Startup India Emerging Entrepreneur Award Under 25, the Google Future X CEO Award, the IIT Madras Alumni Association Award, and the MHRD Youth Icon of the Year Under 25.
Chaturvedi attributes his achievements to a supportive family environment and disciplined preparation for IIT during his time in Kota. Today, Folium Sensing employs 25 people and holds a portfolio of 35 patents, including 15 registered internationally.
Aligned with the government’s Developed India 2047 vision, Chaturvedi says his mission is to strengthen key sectors through indigenous, “Make in India, Made for India” technology that enhances security, industrial safety, and economic growth.
