Securing admission to India’s premier engineering institutes like IIT requires students to conquer one of the country’s most challenging exams, the JEE Advanced. Annually, approximately 250,000 students undertake this exam, but only a few thousand succeed in gaining entry to IIT.
Among these achievers, one individual stands out as the topper, earning the All India Rank 1 in JEE Advanced and securing a place at IIT Bombay.
Why He Decided To Leave IIT Bombay
This story revolves around Chitrang Murdia, who achieved AIR 1 in JEE Advanced 2014 and enrolled in the Computer Science Engineering programme at IIT Bombay. However, Murdia’s aspirations extended beyond studying at India’s top institute; he aimed to pursue engineering at the world’s best institution. Consequently, after spending some time at IIT Bombay, he decided to leave. He sought a degree in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
His IIT Departure Surprised Everyone
Chitrang Murdia’s decision to relinquish his seat at IIT Bombay surprised both his family and friends. In a media interview, Murdia said, “People believe that as a kid, you can’t make life-changing decisions, and that pursuing engineering from an IIT guarantees lakhs of rupees per month.” He added that his choice could inspire other students who wish to leave IIT and follow a career in a different field.
He said, “I’ve noticed that students excelling in math and physics are rushing into programs like electrical engineering and computer science. My decision aims to encourage those who want to pursue their passion for pure science.”
