Forward Mathys Tel has joined Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent transfer after a four-month loan spell at the Premier League club from Bayern Munich, both clubs announced on Sunday.
The France Under-21 international signed a contract with Tottenham until 2031, with media reports stating the deal was valued at around £30 million.
“Mathys Tel joined FC Bayern as a very young player and took his first steps at the top level of European football here,” said Bayern’s head of sport, Max Eberl, in a statement. “He was a well-liked figure in the squad who consistently gave his all for the club and the team. The move to Tottenham has proven to be beneficial for his development.”
Tel, 20, joined Bayern from Stade Rennais in 2022 on a four-year deal, extending his contract to 2029 in March last year. He scored six goals in 33 appearances for the German club but struggled to secure a regular starting place.
He joined Tottenham on loan in February, making 20 appearances, and was part of the squad that secured the North London club’s first major trophy in 17 years with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final.
Tel is the first signing under new coach Thomas Frank, who was appointed on Thursday following the departure of Ange Postecoglou.
