Triumph to expand its 400cc platform with a new cafe racer

It’s launch seems closer than ever

Triumph’s upcoming 400cc cafe racer has been spotted testing multiple times in the past, but always heavily camouflaged or fitted with mock panels, revealing little in terms of design or expected colours. However, this latest sighting finally gives us a clear look at the motorcycle in its production form.

Finished in a red paint scheme with a silver diagonal stripe across the fuel tank and front half-fairing. The rear section also features notable changes, particularly a simpler tail-light design and a body-coloured rear cowl. Interestingly, a grab rail is also visible, suggesting the cowl can be replaced with a pillion seat.

Styling-wise, the bike draws clear inspiration from the Speed Triple 1200 RR. It remains to be seen what name Triumph opts for, especially with the iconic ‘Thruxton’ moniker now officially retired following the Thruxton Final Edition.

Triumph Speed 400 cafe racer engine details

It will carry the same 398cc engine

This new model is expected to use the same 398cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine found on the rest of the 400cc Triumph range, producing 40hp and 37.5Nm. The chassis, suspension and braking hardware are also likely to be carried over unchanged.

Currently, the Bajaj-Triumph 400cc lineup consists of four models – Speed 400, Speed T4, Scrambler 400 X, and Scrambler 400 XC. With the cafe racer’s design now fully revealed, its launch appears imminent, and it will be interesting to see where Bajaj positions it in the lineup in terms of pricing.
