In a remarkable tale of grit, sacrifice, and legacy, Aman Pratap Singh from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district officially joined the ranks of the Indian Air Force (IAF) as a Flying Officer, continuing a proud tradition of four generations of military service in his family. His commissioning, marked by the grand Passing Out Parade held at the Air Force Academy in Hyderabad on June 14, is more than a personal milestone; it’s a moment of pride for an entire village and a district.
Aman hails from Karanda Basant Patti village in Ghazipur, and with this achievement, he follows in the footsteps of his forefathers who served in different branches of armed forces. His great-grandfather served in the Indian Army, his grandfather Sheetaldan Singh was with the Indian Navy, and his father Manoj Singh wore the blue uniform of the Indian Air Force. Now, Flying Officer Aman Pratap Singh adds a new chapter to the family’s rich military lineage.
But Aman’s journey to the parade ground wasn’t easy. The path to earning his wings was one paved with intense discipline, personal sacrifice, and steely determination.
Since childhood, Aman dreamed of serving the nation in uniform like his father. However, during the Covid-19 pandemic, he encountered a major obstacle – his weight spiraled to over 100 kgs. Realising this could jeopardise his ambitions, he embarked on a transformative fitness journey. Through relentless effort, he managed to reduce his weight by an astonishing 46 kgs.
Even while working a high-paying job in a multinational corporation, Aman continued to nurture his dream of joining the IAF. But he soon found the corporate grind incompatible with the demanding preparation required for Air Force selection. With unwavering focus, he made a bold decision; he resigned from his lucrative job and committed himself fully to cracking the Air Force entrance examination.
After clearing the selection process, Aman began his training at the prestigious Air Force Academy in Hyderabad. His year-long training culminated on June 14 at the Passing Out Parade – a symbolic and ceremonial moment when cadets officially become officers in the Indian Air Force.
The event was graced by Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, who served as the Reviewing Officer. Addressing the newly commissioned officers, he said, “When you chose to serve the nation, you chose a path that demands the most, yet offers the highest honour.” He administered the oath to the officers and reminded them of the Air Force’s role as the nation’s first responder in times of crisis.
Air Chief Marshal Chaudhari also referenced Operation Sindoor, lauding the IAF’s precision and preparedness in complex operations. “As future custodians of the skies, you must understand the rapidly evolving nature of warfare and the growing strategic relevance of aerospace power,” he said.
252 New Officers Take Flight
Alongside Aman, a total of 252 cadets were commissioned during the parade. These included officers across flying, technical, and non-technical branches. The event not only celebrated individual accomplishments but also reaffirmed the Indian Air Force’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders in uniform.
Back in Ghazipur, the news of Aman’s commissioning was met with celebration. Villagers and well-wishers hailed him as an inspiration; not just for fulfilling a family tradition, but for showing that with resolve and sacrifice, no dream is out of reach.
