The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially released the detailed, service-wise vacancy breakdown for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2026, offering much-awaited clarity to thousands of aspirants across the country. The figures were shared by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.

This year, a total of 933 vacancies will be filled through one of India’s most competitive examinations. These posts span across the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and several other prestigious Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ central services.

The Civil Services Preliminary Examination is scheduled to be held on May 24, 2026, while the application window closed on February 27, 2026. With the vacancy details now available, candidates can better evaluate their chances and strategically plan their service preferences.

Category-Wise Vacancy Distribution

Out of the total 933 posts, the reservation break-up is as follows:

  • Other Backward Classes (OBC): 243
  • Scheduled Caste (SC): 133
  • Economically Weaker Section (EWS): 88
  • Scheduled Tribe (ST): 72

The IAS continues to offer the highest number of vacancies among all services this year. A total of 180 posts have been notified.

Indian Foreign Service (IFS)
