The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the official notification for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2026, announcing 933 vacancies across various services. Every candidate appearing at the examination, who is otherwise eligible, shall be permitted six attempts at the CSE. However, relaxation in the number of attempts will be available to the SC, ST, OBC and PwBD category candidates who are otherwise eligible.
UPSC Civil Services Exam 2026 Notification Out: Vacancy Details
The examination is expected to fill approximately 933 vacancies, including 33 reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability. This comprises 7 vacancies for candidates with blindness and low vision, 11 for those who are deaf and hard of hearing, 8 for individuals with locomotor disabilities such as cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims, and muscular dystrophy, and 7 for those with multiple disabilities from categories (a) to (c), excluding the combination of blind and deaf (B+D).
The final number of vacancies may change once confirmed by the Cadre Controlling Authorities. Reservations will be provided for candidates from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, the Economically Weaker Sections, and Persons with Benchmark Disability as determined by the Government, the notification stated.
UPSC CSE Prelims 2026: Application Fee
The application fee for UPSC Civil Services is Rs 100. SC, ST, Divyang, and female candidates are exempt from the fee. Candidates who clear the prelims exam will be required to pay a further fee of Rs 20 to apply for the mains exam. SC, ST, PwBD, and women are exempted from paying the fees.
