Bollywood actor Prateik Babbar and actress Priya Banerjee exchanged vows on Valentine’s Day in a heartfelt and intimate wedding ceremony.
According to Vogue India, the couple chose to honour Prateik’s late mother, the iconic actress Smita Patil, by getting married in the very house she had bought in Bandra, Mumbai, making it a deeply personal and emotional moment.
Prateik shared his thoughts on the decision, telling Vogue, “We desired a ‘ghar ki shaadi,’ and getting married to the love of my life here — the first house that my mom bought and my home — was the best way to honour her in spirit.” This intimate celebration was a stark contrast to the lavish Bollywood weddings we often see, proving that sometimes, home is where the heart truly is.
For their wedding, the couple wore custom Tarun Tahiliani ensembles that perfectly complemented the occasion’s understated elegance.
Priya stunned in an ivory and gold lehenga paired with a structured corset. The resham embroidered fishtail skirt featured crystal, sequin, pearl, and bead embellishments, paired with a signature TT crystal drape and veil. Her look was completed with exquisite jewellery by Khurana Jewellery House, the fashion magazine reported.
Prateik opted for an open sherwani, styled with a signature silk drape shirt paired with a pre-stitched charmeuse dhoti, cinched at the waist with a pleated kamarband. He layered them with a sherwani jacket, exquisitely detailed in handcrafted chikankari and French knots. A custom Swarovski ivory pearl neckpiece featuring delicate floral motifs, and set with shimmering studded crystals added a regal touch to his ensemble.
No Babbar family members were invited
While the wedding was a deeply personal affair, it also made headlines for the absence of the Babbar family. Prateik’s father, Raj Babbar, and his half-siblings, Aarya Babbar and Juhi Babbar, were not invited to the ceremony.
Speaking to ETimes, Aarya Babbar revealed, “Nobody from the Babbar family was invited — not even my father.” He expressed his confusion over the decision, adding, “I presume someone has overpowered his brain too much. He is not wanting to connect with anyone from this side of the family.”

However, Aarya remained empathetic, saying he would give Prateik “the benefit of the doubt.” He acknowledged that while he understood why Prateik might not invite his stepmother Nadira Babbar, he felt that his father, Raj Babbar, should have been included.
Prateik Babbar’s family history has always been complex. He is the son of Raj Babbar and Smita Patil, a love story that was controversial at the time. Raj Babbar was already married to Nadira Babbar when he fell in love with Smita. The two married in 1983 and welcomed Prateik in 1986. Tragically, Smita passed away just days after giving birth due to childbirth complications. Following her passing, Raj reconciled with Nadira and raised his children, Aarya and Juhi, while Prateik was raised by his maternal grandparents.
This marks Prateik’s second marriage, as he was previously married to Sanya Sagar. Now, with Priya by his side, Prateik embarks on a new journey, filled with love and the legacy of his mother’s memory.
Despite the family tensions, the couple’s wedding was a beautiful and intimate affair.
