MG Windsor EV Pro price starts at Rs 17.49 lakh

The MG Windsor EV Pro has been launched at Rs 17.49 lakh. It slots in above the current Windsor EV variant line-up, offering some key enhancements inside and out. For buyers who opt for MG’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program, the Windsor EV Pro price starts at Rs 12.49 lakh, where the battery cost is excluded and instead charged on a monthly basis depending on the number of kilometres driven or a predetermined amount. Bookings will commence on May 8. Do note that this introductory price of Rs 17.49 lakh is for the first 8,000 bookings only.

Bigger 52.9kWh battery should yield greater real world range

The headline inclusion in the Windsor EV Pro is a 52.9kWh LFP battery pack. Compared to the ARAI-tested 332km range of the standard Windsor EV’s 38kWh LFP battery, the larger unit in the Pro can travel up to a claimed 449km on a single charge. The Windsor EV achieved a 308km real world range and an 8.1km/kWh average battery efficiency figure in our testing, and the Windsor EV Pro is expected to surpass these results.

Despite the improvement in battery capacity, the Windsor EV Pro’s power and torque outputs remain unchanged from the standard model at 136hp and 200Nm respectively, and the same holds true for its front-wheel drive layout. As for charging, the Windsor EV Pro comes with a 7.4kWh AC charger that takes about 9.5 hours to fully top up the battery, and also supports 60kW DC fast charging which allows for a 20 to 80 percent charge in 50 minutes.

Redesigned alloy wheels are the only change

Since the Windsor EV Pro is essentially a new variant, it does not feature major cosmetic overhauls, with the only update being a new design for the 18-inch alloy wheels that looks identical to that of the MG Hector SUV. Elsewhere, the Windsor EV Pro continues to sport the same styling elements as the current model, like a split headlight setup with connected LED lightbars at the front and the rear, retractable flush door handles, a large window area, and the distinctive MPV-hatchback hybrid form factor. The brand has also introduced 3 new colour options – Celadon Blue, Glaze Red and Aurora Silver.

New beige colour scheme and improved feature set

Inside, the MG Windsor EV Pro is easier to distinguish thanks to the new beige upholstery on the seats, front armrest, and roof and column liners, eschewing the current model’s all-black interior colour scheme. The Windsor EV Pro also gets some important new features, namely V2V (Vehicle to Vehicle) and V2L (Vehicle to Load) functionality, where the battery can be used to charge other electric cars and external devices, as well as a Level 2 ADAS safety suite and powered tailgate.

As was expected, the larger battery pack has eaten into some interior space, and the boot space of the Pro stands at 579 litres, compared to 604 litres for the standard Windsor.

The standard Windsor EV rivals the Tata Nexon EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, and Mahindra XUV400. As the range-topping Windsor EV variant, the Pro will provide stiffer competition to the 45kWh variants of the Nexon EV.
