Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has thrown his availability for the FIFA Club World Cup in June and July in doubt as the Belgian playmaker’s contract with the Premier League side comes to an end at the close of the ongoing season.

It remains to be seen if De Bruyne would ink a short-term deal with Pep Guardiola and Co. to be able to represent the Premier League side at the revamped tournament.

“I think in a way I have to take care of myself because if I get injured in the Club World Cup, what am I going to do?” De Bruyne said.

“Nobody’s going to take care of me at that point. So there’s a big chance probably I won’t play it, but I don’t know, maybe yes.”

De Bruyne stated that he needs to consider his future along the lines of his family’s sustenance with father time ticking on the brilliant midfielder’s game.

“I have to take care of my family. I’ve got three kids, my wife, it’s not an easy process at this time,” the 33-year-old said.

FIFA had introduced a short-term transfer window to enable players whose contracts expire on June 30 to move to clubs participating in the tournament and permit players to sign short-term deals purely to take part before moving on as free agents.

However, De Bruyne is wary of his future, citing the possibility of an injury concern, that might hamper his movement away from the Mancunian side.

City relinquished the PL title to Liverpool as the Reds won the English top-flight with a couple of games still left to be played and Guardiola’s men look to secure a place in the top-4 in order to play UEFA Champions League football in the upcoming season. City were also edged out by Crystal Palace in the final of the FA Cup at the Wembley on Saturday, but the Belgian added that the shortcomings of the season take nothing away from what the club has managed to achieve in the past decade.

“This year has just not gone the way we wanted it to. You have to accept it. You have to move on and work hard and go again,” De Bruyne said.

“It’s alright. This doesn’t change anything that’s happened in the past 10 years,” he concluded.
