Kevin Owens provided the latest update on his ongoing absence from the ring amid growing concerns around his injury.
The World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) star had announced at last month’s SmackDown that he would be taking an indefinite break from the ring as he required neck surgery. Speaking in a video, Owens updated the fans about his injury status and said the date for his surgery has not been decided.
“Hey guys. So I haven’t been around in a little while, and I know a lot of people are wondering what’s going on with my neck and the neck surgery and all that stuff, so I figured I’d take today to update you all… So, first, we don’t have a surgery date yet. I have not had surgery yet. Despite reports that are contrary,” Owens said in the video.
“We’re still gonna try to figure out what the best way to go about it all is, exactly what needs to be done. So we’re kind of figuring that out still. So, there’s a lot of uncertainty, but hopefully in the next few weeks, we get clarity and we do the surgery and then we go from there,” he added.
Owens, a former world champion, also talked about the ten-year anniversary of his main roster debut and took time out to promote the book Fight Forever: The Ballad of Kevin and Sami by JJ McGee. The book chronicles the history between Owens and Sami Zayn.
Owens had been diagnosed with a career-threatening injury ahead of WrestleMania 41, where he had to be replaced by Joe Hendry for his match against Randy Orton. Since then, there has been no confirmation of the timeline around his return. Even Orton sympathised with the Prizefighter after breaking his character during an interview with Raj Prashad of Complex.
“If we’re being real here, my heart breaks for Kevin. I think, first and foremost, I just hate that he’s gotta go through that. Even more than a physical journey, he’s gotta go on to let his body heal, it’s a mental journey too. His body’s been through it, and now he’s paying that price, like he said in the ring the other day. We all pay the price at one point or another,” Orton said.
The Complex noted that Orton has also set up Owens for advice from a surgeon he had earlier worked with.
