Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s red carpet outings at the 78th Cannes Film Festival have us floored and how. For her first appearance, the Devdas actor stunned in an ivory Manish Malhotra sari replete with rubies and diamonds, and a bright column of sindoor adorning her forehead.
Next, she opted for custom Gaurav Gupta couture, with the outfit’s sculptural, galactic silhouette reminding us that she is still the ‘Queen of Cannes’ — turning heads and dropping jaws every step of the way.

Sharing some insight into the stunning ensemble, Gupta shared on Instagram that the outfit was originally envisioned as the “Heiress of Clam” in his Paris Couture Collection: Across the Flame, and the silhouette was reinterpreted for Aishwarya to reflect both cosmic symbolism and timeless elegance. “The gown is hand-embroidered with an abstract rendition of the cosmos in bursts of silver, gold, charcoal, and black, accented with micro glass crystals to capture dimension and light,” he revealed, adding that a handwoven Banarasi brocade cape sat draped over her shoulders. Embroidered at the back was the Sanskrit shloka from the Bhagavad Gita:
“कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्तेर्ा फलेषुकदाचन।
र्ा कर्मफलहेतुर्भमर्ामतेसङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मधि॥”
(“You have a right to perform your actions, but not to the fruits of those actions. Let not the fruits of action be your motive, nor let your attachment be to inaction”)
Styled by Allia Al Rufai, the look was handcrafted by over 15 artisans and the placement was made possible through the strategic efforts of Maison Bose.

Also present at the French Riviera was Janhvi Kapoor, for the screening of her film Homebound with Ishaan Khatter and Karan Johar.
The Ulajh actor hit it out of the park in a pink Tarun Tahiliani sari for her red carpet debut, and for the next few appearances, chose archival YSL and Dior ensembles.

Styled by cousin sister Rhea Kapoor, she paid homage to the French fashion house in an ensemble featuring a sculptural saucer hat from YSL Rive Gauche, 1987, and a velvet jacket from 1989, paired with diaphanous silk chiffon skirt inspired by Yves’ poetic era between 1987 and 1991—custom made by Anamika Khanna. The look was completed with yellow diamonds by Chopard.

In another look, Janhvi slipped into an archival black backless gown from Yves Saint Laurent’s Rive Gauche 1975 collection, paired with diamond studs, wedged Christian Louboutins and a mini Hermès Kelly. Kapoor was also seen attending a press event in a Christian Dior 1957 haute couture black slub silk dress.

However, her final look in a white dripping sari featuring Di Petsa’s signature wet-look glamour and jewels from the House of Chopard was a nod to old Bollywood cinema, especially her mother Sridevi’s iconic rain-soaked look in the music video of Kate Nahi Katate Ye Din Ye Raat. Her off the shoulder blouse was paired with a contrasting blue choker, emerald pendant and matching earrings. Slicked back hair pulled into a neat bun and soft glam makeup — a fresh base, dewy cheeks, glossy neutral lip and lots of mascara added to her ethereal glam.
Netizens were quick to react to her outfit, likening it to her on-screen look look in the song Chuttamalle, writing comments like: “It’s giving Chuttamalle ✨,” She’s literally the prettiest actress right now… No debate!,” and “What in the Chuttamalle😘😭”
