The Joint Seat Allocation Authority or JoSAA counselling is held every year for admission to Indian engineering and technical institutes including IITs and NITs. This counselling process is conducted on the basis of JEE Advanced and/or Mains result.
JoSAA counselling is likely to start from June 3, 2025. The complete schedule and round-wise dates of JoSAA counseling 2025 is expected to be updated on the official website at josaa.nic.in soon. There will be five main rounds in JoSAA counselling. Even after this, if seats remain vacant in any premier engineering institute then CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) will conduct some special extra rounds.
Eligibility Criteria For JoSAA Counselling 2025
Some eligibility criteria have been fixed for taking admission in top engineering colleges by participating in JoSAA counseling:
For admission in IIT: It is mandatory for the candidate to qualify JEE Advanced 2025 result and obtain a valid rank.
For NITs, IIEST, IIITs and GFTIs: It is mandatory for the candidate to have secured a valid rank in JEE Main 2025 exam.
Qualification: Candidates must have also passed class 12th (or equivalent) in 2024 or 2025. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics should be compulsory subjects in it.
Minimum Marks: 75% aggregate marks for General category (65% for SC/ST/PwD) or should be in the top 20 percentile in their class 12th board exam.
Nationality: Indian citizens or foreign nationals (PIO) who meet the minimum eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2025.
Physical verification is mandatory for PwD (Persons with Disabilities) candidates, which will start from the first day of counselling and continue throughout the rounds. Candidates will have to complete online registration and choice filling on the official website of JoSAA.

How Many Seats Are Available In IIT and NIT?
Total seats (based on 2024 data): A total of 59,937 seats were available through JoSAA counselling last year. The exact JoSAA seat matrix for 2025 will be released in June 2025 at josaa.nic.in.

IITs: 17,740 seats
NITs: 23,954 seats
IIITs: 7,746 seats
GFTIs: 8,067 seats
JoSAA Counselling 2025 Process
There are mainly five stages in JoSAA counselling:
Registration and choice filling: Candidates have to register with JEE Main 2025 application number, name, mother’s name and date of birth at josaa.nic.in. Choice filling will be done after OTP verification.
Seat Allotment: Seats will be allotted in five rounds based on merit, choice preference and seat availability.
Seat Acceptance Fee: Rs 35,000 for General Category, Rs 15,000 for SC/ST/PwD.
Options in JoSAA Counselling 2025:
Freeze: Accept the seat and do not participate in further rounds.
Float: Accept the seat but participate in the rounds for a better institute/course.
Slide: Accept the seat but participate in the rounds for a better course in the same institute.
Document Verification: After seat allotment, candidates will have to go for document verification and fee payment at the reporting centre.
CSAB Special Rounds: If seats remain vacant after JoSAA rounds then CSAB Special Rounds will be conducted in October 2025.
