Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim stressed Bruno Fernandes’ importance and squad focus ahead of United’s friendlies in Asia.

There exists no need for Manchester United to sport a big squad; just need one that shall be with superstar midfielder Bruno Feranades in mind, said manager Ruben Amorim.
After securing a 2-0 win over Aston Villa and finishing 15th in the Premier League, United began their Asia tour with a trip to Kuala Lumpur. The tour includes two friendlies.
Amorim’s 32-man squad, which includes key players like Casemiro, Alejandro Garnacho, and Bruno Fernandes, will face the ASEAN All-Stars on Wednesday and then play in Hong Kong on Friday.
“We always prepare two plans, with and without the Champions League,” Amorim said at a press conference. “Without the Champions League, we don’t need a big squad. We can manage the squad better and focus on improving our current team and academy.”
Amorim, who has included several academy players on the tour, is confident in his team’s progress.
“The past can be the future. Financial Fair Play limits us, even with the Champions League, so we are prepared,” he explained. “It’s important to stick together. We’ll face challenges, but the team is improving, and that’s what matters.”
A significant topic of discussion has been the potential departure of star midfielder and captain Bruno Fernandes. Despite a challenging season, Fernandes stood out, leading United in goals with 19 and providing 20 assists across all competitions.
Amorim emphasized Fernandes’ importance to the club and their plans to build the upcoming season’s squad around him. “Bruno takes responsibility and is crucial for us,” Amorim stated. “He’s essential for what we want to achieve with this team.”
