Sales dropped by nearly half in FY2025 compared to FY2024
First revealed at Auto Expo 2023, the Jimny’s early promise – it garnered over 30,000 bookings in the five months between the Auto Expo reveal and market – launch did not, however, translate into purchases in the domestic market. Domestic wholesales dropped a massive 49 percent in FY2025, though April 2025’s 431 units show a 60 percent increase.
Maruti Jimny export numbers currently are 75,844 units
In October 2023, five months after it launched the five-door SUV in India, Maruti commenced exports of the Jimny to key overseas markets including Latin America, Middle East and Africa and received a strong market response from Mexico, Australia and South Africa. It is to be noted that from November 2020, Maruti Suzuki had been producing the three-door model exclusively for export to both left- and right-hand-drive markets in Africa and the Middle East from its Gurgaon plant in Haryana.
The made-in-India Jimny 5-Door’s exports received a strong growth accelerator when on January 30, 2025, Suzuki Motor Corp unveiled the model in Japan as the ‘Nomade’ ahead of the planned official launch on April 3. The introduction of the Jimny 5-door in Japan marked an important step in Maruti’s export journey as it became the second SUV, after the Maruti Fronx, to be supplied to the Suzuki’s home market in FY20225.
There was massive customer demand in Japan for the Jimny 5-door, as just four days after bookings opened, the company received over 50,000 pre-orders and was compelled to temporarily halt bookings for this made-in-India model.
Maruti Jimny price and rivals
Currently priced between Rs 12.76 lakh and Rs 14.81 lakh, the Jimny is powered by a sole 105hp, 134 Nm, 1.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic. However, unlike Maruti’s remaining line-up in India, which has moved on to the newer K15C engine, the Jimny uses the older-spec K15B engine. Maruti Suzuki claims a fuel efficiency of 16.94kpl for the manual variant, while the automatic variant returns an ARAI-rated mileage of 16.39kpl. The Jimny does not have any direct rivals, but sees competition from the likes of the Mahindra Thar and the Force Gurkha.
