In India, the UPSC civil service examination is regarded as one of the most challenging exams in the country. Every year, lakhs of candidates take this exam, but only a few succeed and reach prestigious positions like IAS and IPS. Among these successful individuals is Archit Chandak from Nagpur, who demonstrated through his ability and passion that the desire to serve the country outweighs any lucrative job offer.

Archit Chandak was born and raised in Nagpur, Maharashtra, and has always excelled academically. In 2012, he topped the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) in his city, drawing widespread attention to his talent. This accomplishment marked the beginning of his promising career.

Following his success in JEE Main and Advanced, Chandak enrolled in IIT Delhi, the country’s premier institute, where he earned a B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering. During his studies, he realised that his true calling lay in public service rather than the corporate sector.

During an internship, a Japanese company recognised Chandak’s potential and offered him a job with an annual salary package of Rs 35 lakh. Despite this lucrative offer, he chose to pursue his dream of serving the country and declined the job.

After completing his B.Tech, Chandak began preparing for the civil services examination. In 2018, he passed the UPSC exam on his first attempt, securing All India Rank 184 and earning a position in the Indian Police Service (IPS).

Chandak’s first posting was as Station House Officer (SHO) at Bazarpeth Police Station in Bhusaval, where he gained the trust of the local community through his work. He was later promoted to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Nagpur.

In addition to his academic and professional achievements, Chandak is passionate about fitness. He has completed the 42 km Mumbai Marathon and enjoys playing chess, boasting a FIDE rating of 1820.

Chandak is now married to his UPSC batchmate IAS Saumya Sharma.
