Bangladesh AmCham targets over $5 bn in US investment

The American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham Bangladesh) has reaffirmed its commitment to Bangladesh’s investment climate and said it is ready to help mobilise more than $5 billion in additional investment from existing member companies and prospective American investors over the next five years.

The chamber’s executive committee, led by Syed Mohammad Kamal, president, AmCham Bangladesh and vice president, Mastercard, met Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat.

AmCham Bangladesh aims to mobilise over $5 billion in extra US investment over five years for Bangladesh’s investment pipeline.
It backed FY2026-27 reforms on approvals, Single Window, tax, VAT, repatriation and customs, while seeking policy predictability.
For apparel and textile sourcing chains, the US-Bangladesh trade framework could support stronger global value-chain positioning.

The organisation said it sought the Prime Minister’s leadership and the government’s partnership to create the enabling environment needed to achieve that investment ambition.

According AmCham Bangladesh, the chamber has worked since 1996 to strengthen Bangladesh-US economic and commercial relations and to promote a transparent, predictable, competitive and investment-friendly business environment. Its member companies collectively contribute more than 20 per cent to Bangladesh’s tax exchequer and have invested more than $5 billion in the country over the years.

It acknowledged progress in strengthening Bangladesh’s investment and business environment, particularly the shift towards practical investment facilitation under the FY2026-27 reform package. It welcomed time-bound approvals and licensing, Single Window implementation, digital tax and VAT administration, lower compliance burdens, improved capital and profit repatriation processes, and simplified customs procedures. The chamber also underlined the importance of long-term policy predictability in priority sectors for investor confidence and long-term investment decisions.

On digital governance, AmCham welcomed enactment of the PDPA and NDGA and stressed effective implementation, artificial intelligence (AI) readiness, cybersecurity resilience, regulatory clarity and continued public-private collaboration.

The delegation said the US-Bangladesh Reciprocal Trade Agreement framework is a strategic opportunity to deepen bilateral economic engagement and strengthen Bangladesh’s position in global value chains. AmCham called for the relationship to move beyond market access towards a broader strategic economic partnership covering technology, AI and digital innovation, cloud and cybersecurity, healthcare and life sciences, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing and financial-sector modernisation.

For the next phase, AmCham said the priority should be effective execution of reforms and sustained competitiveness, including predictable tax and customs administration, reliable infrastructure and energy, and stronger institutionalised public-private collaboration. It proposed a Digital Economy Advisory Forum/Task Force and a Public-Private Competitiveness Council with representation from the government, business, foreign investors and organisations to identify bottlenecks, support implementation and strengthen investor confidence.

AmCham also reaffirmed its readiness to work with the government as a strategic partner by providing investor intelligence and business feedback, supporting policy collaboration, connecting Bangladesh with US corporate decision-makers, promoting reforms and investment opportunities internationally, and strengthening business-to-business engagement.

Prime Minister Rahman said the government’s priority is to ensure effective implementation of reforms while strengthening investor confidence through policy predictability, efficient governance and constructive dialogue with the business community. He assured prospective foreign investors of government support and expressed commitment to deepening collaboration with AmCham to advance Bangladesh-US economic cooperation and shared prosperity.
