Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly finalised the venue where he will get married next summer to his long-time partner, Georgina Rodriguez. Ronaldo and Rodriguez got engaged earlier this year in August, making the announcement via social media following a nine-year relationship.
According to The Sun, the football icon will begin the new chapter of his life post the 2026 FIFA World Cup at his native Madeira. He will be getting married at the historic cathedral of Funchal, which is the oldest place of worship on the island.
The church was inaugurated in 1514 and is also less than two kilometres from the hospital where Ronaldo was born. It’s also near to his childhood club Nacional da Madeira, from where he moved to Sporting Lisbon at the age of 12 before Manchester United came calling.
Ronaldo-Rodriguez’s Love Story
The Real Madrid legend first met Rodriguez in 2016 while he was still with the Spanish giants. They’ve two children together. Ronaldo also has three kids born to two surrogate mothers.
During an interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo opened up on why it took him so long to pop the question.
“I’m always saying the things, the good things, coming at the right time. And sometimes you need time to realise that, [so] you don’t do some mistakes… I think it’s the moment, not only because it’s the mother of my kids, but only it’s the person that I love more,” Ronaldo said.
“It’s the love of my life. So I think it’s the right moment. Nothing’s going to change just because we’re going to get married. It’s just a beautiful chapter of life. It’s good… I knew it, that one day I will do that [propose], but I don’t know which way. You know, it’s difficult… When you propose your wife, you never know the moment, the scenario, the environment. I’m always saying that the good things coming in a natural way – football, life, opportunities, marriage,” he added.
