Morocco triumphed over Jordan in the final of the FIFA Arab Cup on Friday at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar, securing a 3-2 victory in the summit clash.
A brilliant goal by Oussama Tannane and a brace from Abderrazzaq Hamed-Allah overshadowed Jordan’s efforts, as Ali Olwan’s double went in vain.
Tannane opened the scoring with a spectacular finish, letting one fly from his own half to catch Jordan’s goalkeeper Yazeed Abulaila off guard.
Jordan appeared to have turned the game around when Olwan equalised three minutes into the second half and later gave his side the lead with a penalty twenty minutes later.
However, an inspired substitution led to extra time, as Hamed-Allah came off the bench to equalise three minutes before the 90-minute mark.
Hamed-Allah once again proved crucial, scoring the decisive goal in the 100th minute. This time, Morocco held onto their lead to secure the coveted Arab Cup.
Morocco began their Arab Cup campaign with a 3-1 win over Comoros and were then held to a 0-0 draw by Oman. This setback against Oman turned out to be the only blemish in an otherwise flawless run. They subsequently defeated Saudi Arabia and Syria, both by a margin of 1-0, before overwhelming the United Arab Emirates with a 3-0 victory to secure their place in the final. In the summit clash, Morocco capitalised on the opportunity to defeat the Jordanians, who stumbled at the final hurdle.
The win proved to be Morocco’s second Arab title, in addition to the 2012 crown they clinched.
