Passenger vehicle retail sales in February 2026 surged 26 percent year on year (YoY) to 3,94,768 units, reaching the highest-ever level for the month, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).
Demand remained largely driven by SUVs, although rural markets also played a key role in the month’s growth. Rural PV sales soared 34.21 percent year on year, outpacing the 21.12 percent growth seen in urban markets, with smaller towns also supporting demand for entry-level and compact cars.

Maruti Suzuki
Sales: 1,54,095 units | Market share: 39 percent
Maruti Suzuki retained its dominant position in February, retailing 1,54,095 units, up from 1,20,010 units in the same month last year. The company’s market share improved slightly to 39.03 percent, reinforcing its lead in the passenger vehicle segment.
Even as SUVs dominate overall market demand, Maruti’s stronghold in hatchbacks and compact cars continues to underpin its volumes. Models such as the Wagon R, Swift, Baleno and Dzire remain consistent contributors to the brand’s retail performance.
Tata
Sales: 56,447 units | Market share: 14.30 percent
Tata Motors held on to second place with 56,447 units sold in February 2026, up significantly from 39,502 units a year earlier. Its market share rose to 14.30 percent, reflecting continued demand for its SUV line-up. The Nexon and Punch remain key pillars of Tata’s sales performance, with both models consistently ranking among the highest-selling vehicles.
Mahindra
Sales: 53,281 units | Market share: 13.50 percent
Mahindra recorded retail sales of 53,281 units in February 2026, up from 42,414 units last year. Despite the increase in volumes, its market share saw a marginal decline. Mahindra’s volumes continue to be driven by its SUV line-up, led by models such as the Scorpio N, Thar and the XUV range.
Hyundai
Sales: 45,615 units | Market share: 11.55 percent
Hyundai secured fourth position with 45,615 units, up from 39,368 units in February 2025. However, its market share declined to 11.55 percent from 12.58 percent in the same period. The Creta remains Hyundai’s biggest contributor, supported by steady demand for models such as the Venue and Exter.
Toyota
Sales: 26,392 units | Market share: 6.69 percent
Toyota secured fifth position with retail sales of 26,392 units, up from 23,283 units in February 2025. The company’s market share stood at 6.69 percent. The Innova Hycross and Hyryder remain important volume drivers for the brand, alongside consistent demand for the Fortuner.
Kia India
Sales: 25,031 units | Market share: 6.34 percent
Kia reported retail sales of 25,031 units, up from 19,479 units a year earlier. Its market share rose slightly to 6.34 percent. The Seltos and Sonet continue to anchor the brand’s sales with support from Carens Clavis and Carens Clavis EV.
Skoda Volkswagen Group
Sales: 7,615 units | Market share: 1.93 percent
Skoda and Volkswagen recorded combined sales of 7,615 units in February 2026, up from 6,777 units in the corresponding month last year. The group held a 1.93 percent share of the passenger vehicle market.
Skoda models such as the Kylaq, Kushaq and Slavia, alongside Volkswagen’s Taigun and Virtus, continue to drive the group’s volumes.
Honda
Sales: 4,774 units | Market share: 1.21 percent
Honda sold 4,774 units in February 2026, compared with 5,354 units in the same month last year, resulting in a decline in market share to 1.21 percent. The City, Amaze and Elevate make up Honda’s current line-up in India.
JSW MG Motor
Sales: 4,548 units | Market share: 1.15 percent
MG Motor recorded retail sales of 4,548 units, slightly lower than 4,846 units in February 2025. Its market share stood at 1.15 percent. MG continues to focus on a mix of electric and internal combustion models in India, with the Windsor EV emerging as its highest-selling model.
Renault
Sales: 3,248 units | Market share: 0.82 percent
Renault rounded out the top 10 with retail sales of 3,248 units, up from 2,547 units in February 2025. With this, the brand has a 0.82 percent market share, and it is expected to strengthen its presence with the upcoming launch of the new Duster.
Outside the top 10, Nissan recorded 1,622 units, while the Stellantis group reported 1,009 units across its brands. Vinfast registered 384 units, and BYD sold 306 units in February.
