Mercedes-Benz CLA EV: All your questions answered – Introduction

As one of Mercedes-Benz’s most-awaited cars in India this year, the CLA Electric has been launched as the German marque’s most affordable model in the country. While the CLA nameplate is available in both pure-electric and hybrid guises in several markets abroad, India only gets the former. Having said all that, read on to know the answers to some of your questions on the Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric.

1. What is the price of the CLA Electric in India?

It is offered in three trims; prices start from Rs 55 lakh

The CLA Electric will replace the recently discontinued A-Class sedan, as well as the EQA and EQB electric SUVs. There are two variants of the CLA Electric on sale in India, and these are spread across three trim distinct levels. The range kicks off with the CLA 200 Standard Range Progressive Line, which is priced at Rs 55 lakh. This is followed by the CLA 250+ Long Range AMG Line at Rs 59 lakh, and finally, there is the limited but range-topping CLA 250+ Long Range Launch Edition – this is priced at Rs 64 lakh.

2. What are the CLA Electric’s powertrain specifications?

India-spec model offers up to 792km of claimed range

Mercedes-Benz CLA EV: All your questions answered – Introduction

The CLA Electric is the first model built on the Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) platform. The entry-spec CLA 200 Standard Range comes with a 58kWh battery pack and a WLTP-claimed range of up to 542km, whilst the range-topping CLA 250+ Long Range’s 85kWh battery pack equates to a WLTP-claimed range of up to 792km. The CLA 200’s rear-axle-mounted electric motor (RWD) produces 224hp and 335Nm, which means a claimed 0-100kph time of 7.5 seconds.

On the other hand, the CLA 250’s single electric motor produces the same amount of torque but 48hp more, for a total output of 272hp. This additional oomph allows the CLA 250 to accelerate from 0-100kph in 6.7 seconds – that’s 0.8 seconds quicker than the CLA 200. The top speed of the Mercedes CLA EV is 210kph, regardless of the variant. Meanwhile, the 800V architecture of the CLA Electric supports DC fast-charging up to 320kW on the CLA 250 and up to 200kW on the CLA 200. Where the former’s battery pack can be fast-charged from 10-80 percent in 20 minutes, the latter’s larger-capacity unit requires 22 minutes to achieve the same. The CLA Electric’s AC charging speed is capped at 11kW, irrespective of the variant.

3. What are the design highlights of the Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric?

Has a sleek silhouette and features a dual-screen setup inside

Mercedes-Benz CLA EV: All your questions answered – Introduction

The Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric has a sleek silhouette and follows the manufacturer’s latest design ideology while maintaining a low drag coefficient of 0.21. It also features sleek LED headlights with a star-shaped LED DRL in the centre. These headlights are connected by an LED lightbar, while the front grille is blanked off and adorned with plenty of star motifs (including the backlit three-pointed logo), offering contrast against the black backdrop. Meanwhile, the front bumper houses functional air vents to cool some of the electrical components.

In profile, the CLA Electric gets 18-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels and flush door handles. Depending on the trim level, the window surrounds feature chrome garnish – the top portion of the door handles get a chrome insert, too. At the rear of the CLA Electric are connected LED tail-lights with the same star-shaped LED motifs as the front DRLs. The lower portion of the sculpted bumper is primarily black but with some chrome garnish for contrast. Those choosing the 250+ Long Range variant will get the AMG-Line package, which enhances the sporty look of the bumpers and alloy rims.

The highlights on the inside include a flat dashboard design with a 10.25-inch driver’s display and a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system. While the international-spec CLA 350 has a third screen for the front passenger, the India-spec model skips it in favour of a gloss-black panel with backlit tri-star elements. There is a 3-spoke steering wheel with touch-enabled controls and leatherette upholstery for the seats. The AMG-Line trim gets version-specific steering wheel, metal pedals and seat upholstery.

4. What features does the Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric offer?

Gets a fixed glass roof, dual-zone AC and more, but lacks ventilated seats

Mercedes-Benz CLA EV: All your questions answered – Introduction

In addition to the aforementioned dual-screen setup, the Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric gets a fixed panoramic glass roof, a wireless phone charger, powered front seats with heating and massage functions, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, a Burmester sound system and auto park assistance. On the other hand, it lacks seat ventilation, which is offered with the higher-spec CLA 350 variant in international markets.

The safety suite includes six airbags, Level 2+ ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems), a 360-degree camera with blind-spot assist, a tyre-pressure monitoring system and an electronic parking brake. Notably, the CLA Electric was the safest among cars tested by Euro NCAP in 2025.

5. Which cars does the Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric rival?

Competes with popular models such as the Tesla Model Y and Kia EV6

The Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric locks horns primarily with the BYD Seal in India, but its pricing also puts it in close proximity to other premium EVs such as the Tesla Model Y and Kia EV6.

All prices mentioned are ex-showroom, India.
