BMW has launched the top-spec, high performance, full-blown M iteration of the S 1000 R, dubbed as the M 1000 R at Rs 33.50 lakh. It is powered by the same engine, features similar design but turns up everything by a notch to deserve the M prefix.
1. M 1000 R produces 210hp and 113Nm
2. Can achieve a claimed top-speed of 280kph and 0-100kph in 3.2 seconds
3. Costs Rs 1.12 lakh more than the Ducati Streetfigher V4 S
BMW M 1000 R: What’s new?
The M 1000 R takes front design inspiration from the M 1000 RR supersport
Much like the earlier M 1000 R, this updated iteration’s engine is also based on the S 1000 RR. Meaning that it too pumps out 210hp at 13,750rpm and 113Nm 11,100rpm as the Supersport. However the output is lower by 2hp compared to the model it replaces but it is delivered 750rpm earlier in the rev range.
BMW claims the M 1000 R can do the 0-100kph sprint in 3.2 seconds and can achieve a top-speed of 280kph. The M 1000 R also gets a quick action throttle as standard. In addition to that, much like every modern high-performance motorcycle, the M 1000 R too gets winglets that the brand claims provides downforce while leaning and riding upright. At 220kph, it is capable of providing downforce worth 11kgs. The M 1000 R also gets BMW’s ShiftCam Technology that increases torque at lower rpms with simultaneous gains in peak power.
The outgoing model featured a single vertical headlight setup, reminiscent of the erstwhile G 310 R, which was not well-received by purists, to say the least. Much like the 2026 S 1000 R that mirrored the front-fascia of the S 1000 RR, the M-iteration of the roadster too adopts that front-design which looks more fitting with an air-intake place in-between the headlights. Except for the updated design and a few refinements, the M 1000 R remains largely similar to the outgoing model, including its mechanical package.
The M 1000 R also gets an option of the M-Competition package in combination with the Blackstorm metallic/M Motorsport or White Aluminium metallic matt colour schemes, the M Competition package includes carbon wheels, GPS-Laptimer, carbon parts such as rear wheel cover and chain guard, front wheel cover, tank covers, airbox cover with tapes, wind deflector, sprocket cover. It even comes with the M pillion package – for the ones who are expecting practicality from their 210hp roadster – as well as the M pillion cover and a milled, fully adjustable M rider footrest system.
It comes generously equipped and the electronics suite includes launch control, traction control, wheelie control, pit limiter and riding modes (Rain, Road, Dynamic, Race and Race Pro 1-3) among others. BMW says that all these aspects can be individually tweaked to suit the rider’s own skill level and riding style via a 6.5-inch TFT dash.
It is available in three colours – Light White/M Motorsport (Only available with the Base Model), White Aluminum Metallic Matte (Available in Base Model and M Competition Package), Blackstorm Metallic/M Motorsport (Only available in M Competition Package).
At Rs 33.50 lakh, the M 1000 R costs Rs 1.12 lakh more than its chief rival the Ducati Streetfighter V4 S that comes with similar levels of equipment and handling prowess.
