UP Board 2026 results highlight a continuing trend, for three years girls have led merit lists and posted higher pass percentages, reflecting broader gains in girls education

up board, upmsp toppers 2026
As UP Board results for 2026 are announced today, one trend from the past few years stands out. Girls have consistently dominated the merit list — not just once, but three years in a row.
And this isn’t about one exceptional year. It’s been happening consistently.
What the last three years show
Take 2025, for instance. In Class 12, Mehak Jaiswal topped the state with 97.2 percent. But what stood out even more was the bigger picture — girls had a much higher pass percentage than boys, by nearly 10 percentage points.
Go back a year to 2024, and you see the same story. Prachi Nigam topped the Class 10 exams with an impressive 591 out of 600. And she wasn’t alone — several girls were clustered right at the top.
Even in 2023, girls featured prominently in the top ranks across both Class 10 and Class 12. The names changed, but the pattern didn’t.
So this isn’t just about a few standout students. It’s something broader.
It’s not just about toppers
The merit list tends to get all the attention, but the real shift is visible in overall performance.
Year after year, girls are passing in higher numbers than boys. The gap isn’t small either — it’s often several percentage points.
That tells you this isn’t just about a handful of high scorers. It’s happening across the board.
So what’s driving this?
There’s no single reason, but a few things come up again and again.
One is consistency. Board exams reward steady performance across subjects, and many teachers say girls tend to be more consistent in preparation.
Then there’s attendance and routine. In many schools, especially outside big cities, teachers often point out that girls are more regular and focused when it comes to daily study.
That doesn’t mean boys aren’t capable — but when it comes to board exams, small habits add up.
The bigger shift behind the numbers
There’s also a larger change happening in the background. Over the years, more girls are staying in school, completing their education, and appearing for board exams. Families are more supportive, and access to education has improved in many parts of the state.
All of that shows up in the results.
What to watch this year
With the 2026 results about to be declared, this is one trend many will be keeping an eye on.
Will girls top the merit list again?
If the last three years are anything to go by, it wouldn’t be surprising. But more importantly, it’s not just about who comes first anymore — it’s about how consistently girls are doing well across the entire system.
