- Soft-top can be opened or closed in 18 seconds at up to 50kph speed
BMW M440i Convertible: All you need to know
Unlike the older model with a hard-top folding roof, it gets a soft-top roof
The M440i’s design is clearly inspired by the 4 Series, and gets similar design elements save for the soft-top roof that can be opened or closed in 18 seconds at speeds up to 50kph. Compared to this, the first-generation ‘F33’ 4-Series Convertible had a folding hard top. The M440i Convertible gets ‘snake eyes’ LED headlights with DRLs, and a ‘beaver teeth’ grille, the latter of which extends from the bonnet to the lower section of the bumper. The bumper itself features functional air intakes at both sides to cool the engine and internals.
In profile, it gets 19-inch alloy rims, with a staggered wheel setup – 225/45 R19 at the front and 255/35 R19 at the rear. It has two doors on both sides, and the rear row can be accessed by folding the front passenger seat. At the rear, the M440i Convertible gets wraparound LED lights with intricate details and exhaust tips on both sides of the rear bumper.
Offered with a 4-seater layout with the front seats borrowed from the M340i
Inside, the BMW M440i features a 2+2 seating layout and a clutter-free dashboard. It features a dual-screen setup, consisting of a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display. It gets a 3-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel with physical controls.
The front seats are the same as the M340i, and are hence offered with amenities like power adjustability and memory functions. Other features include a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a wireless phone charger, a head-up display (HUD), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and automatic climate control.
Gets the M340i’s 6-cylinder mill, but takes 0.5 seconds more to do a 0-100kph run
The BMW M440i is powered by the same ‘B58’ 3.0-litre straight-six turbo-petrol engine from the M340i that produces 374hp and 500Nm. It is mated with an 8-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to all the wheels (AWD). BMW claims a 0-100kph run time of 4.9 seconds (0.5 seconds more than the M340i), and an electronically limited top speed of 250kph. However, we could clock a 0-100kph time of 4.43 seconds during our time with the M440i Convertible.
Prices are ex-showroom, India.
