MakeMyTrip has acquired a majority stake in Bengaluru-based shared mobility platform Quick Ride, marking its entry into the ride-pooling business and expanding its presence in ground transportation. The acquisition gives MakeMyTrip access to the shared mobility segment, which complements its existing ground transportation portfolio. Quick Ride connects commuters travelling along similar routes, enabling affordable ride pooling for everyday journeys through an asset-light, technology-led model. The platform operates through an enterprise-led business model, with partnerships across corporates, IT parks and business campuses. By encouraging commuters to share existing vehicles, it aims to improve commuting efficiency and help ease urban traffic congestion.Following an internal restructuring, Quick Ride’s brand and ride-pooling business have been transferred to a newly established entity, Co Ride Mobility Private Limited. MakeMyTrip has acquired a majority stake in this entity. Quick Ride’s promoters will continue to lead the business, while its erstwhile electric vehicle taxi business will remain with the predecessor entity, iDisha Info Labs Private Limited. Rajesh Magow, Co-Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer, MakeMyTrip, said the acquisition aligns with the company’s strategy of pursuing selective investments and acquisitions that complement its existing businesses and expand its offerings. He said ride pooling would give the group a presence in high-frequency daily commutes within cities as well as intercity travel. Quick Ride will be housed under MakeMyTrip’s ground transport business, with the company drawing on its experience of building redBus in India and overseas markets to scale the platform. Prakash Sangam, CEO of redBus and Head of Ground Transport at MakeMyTrip, said the acquisition would expand the company’s offerings across different travel requirements, allowing it to serve customers across daily office commutes and weekend intercity journeys. KNM Rao, Founder and CEO of Quick Ride, said joining the MakeMyTrip group marked an important milestone for the company and its user community. He added that the platform would leverage MakeMyTrip’s reach and travel industry experience to scale its operations. In recent years, MakeMyTrip has expanded its portfolio through acquisitions and strategic investments across travel segments. These include Savaari in car rental services, Happay in corporate travel and expense management, Flamingo Transworld in regional group holiday packages and a minority investment in visa-processing platform Atlys. The Quick Ride acquisition further expands the group’s ground transportation capabilities, adding ride pooling to its existing portfolio of travel services.
