The speech arrives at a charged moment for India’s student community. Delhi’s NEET-UG protests, driven by allegations of irregularities in the medical entrance exam, culminated in Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation on July 25.
That movement, organised under the banner “Cockroach Janta Party,” has since become a reference point for aspirants elsewhere: in Jharkhand, students protesting alleged paper leaks in JPSC and JSSC recruitment exams have cited the Delhi outcome as proof that “accountability can be sought,” with an indefinite hunger strike ongoing in Ranchi since late July.
In Bihar, STET aspirants have separately been agitating over delayed notification for the exam, which is mandatory for teacher recruitment.
Against that backdrop, Modi’s Red Fort remarks read less like routine youth outreach and more like a direct response to a national mood.

The centrepiece was free online coaching for competitive exams — a direct answer to what he called the “major burden” coaching classes place on middle-class families.
Modi said parents increasingly feel judged if they can’t afford to send a child to a coaching centre, and pledged that the government would combine India’s Digital Public Infrastructure with “excellent talent and teachers” to offer coaching at no cost.
He framed it as a way to save families “thousands of crores of rupees” while letting students stay home, closer to their families, without the financial strain of relocating for coaching hubs.

The most concrete number came on artificial intelligence: Modi announced that 1 crore young Indians would be trained in AI skills over the coming year, positioning it as a bid for India to “lead the world” in the field.
He also pointed to more than 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs already set up to draw children toward technology and innovation early, and cited private Indian startups — founded by entrepreneurs with an average age of 28 — successfully launching satellites on their first attempt as evidence of what young India can already do.

Modi used the phrase “jo khele wo khile” (those who play, bloom) to frame a renewed sports push, citing India’s growing presence at global podiums through schemes like TOPS, Khelo India Games and expanding sports-medicine infrastructure.
He confirmed India is bidding to host the 2036 Olympics and will host the 2030 Commonwealth Games — but was candid about the gap: of roughly 325–350 Olympic events, he said, India currently has no presence in about two-thirds.
To close that gap by 2036, he announced a nationwide talent-hunt campaign to identify sporting ability among children aged 5 to 15, in every village, city and school.
