India had their best day of the 2026 Asian Games, winning four gold medals in a single session, three in compound archery and one in shooting, to go with three bronzes in wrestling and boxing.

More medals were guaranteed by day’s end too, with Lovlina Borgohain into the boxing final, women’s hockey through to the gold-medal match, and both squash teams assured of podium finishes, taking India’s overall tally well past 60.

Archery’s Clean Sweep: Three Golds In Compound

India’s compound archers swept all three team golds on offer, successfully defending every title they won in Hangzhou. The women’s team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Prithika Pradeep and Chikitha Taniparthi, having edged South Korea 234-233 in the semifinals, beat China in the final with a flawless finishing end to equal a world record.

Chikitha then doubled up, teaming with Sahil Jadhav to win the mixed team gold in a nervy shoot-off against South Korea after the sides finished tied. The men’s team of Kushal Dalal, Sahil Jadhav and Mani Ratnam Ganesh Thirumuru completed the sweep, overturning a one-point Chinese lead in the final end with six straight 10s to beat China 236-229.

Neeru And Kynan Add A Shooting Gold

Shooting also delivered its share of history. Neeru Dhanda, fresh off her individual trap gold and team silver from Day 11, teamed up with senior partner Kynan Chenai to win the mixed trap team title. The Indian pair recovered from a shaky start against Qatar to close out the final with three straight 10s, levelling a world record in the process. It was Dhanda’s third medal, and third colour, of these Games.

Wrestling And Boxing Add Three Bronzes

Sunil Kumar defended his Hangzhou bronze in the men’s Greco-Roman 87kg, beating the Philippines’ Roberts Callum Johnston 4-0 on technical superiority in the bronze-medal bout, having lost his semifinal to Japan’s Taizo Yoshida. In boxing, Priya Ghanghas went down 1-4 on a split decision in her women’s 60kg semifinal to settle for bronze, and Kapil Pokhariya suffered the same fate in the men’s 90kg, losing 1-4 to Uzbekistan’s Turabek Khabibullaev.

More Medals Guaranteed

Lovlina Borgohain produced the boxing highlight of the day, recovering from a lost opening round to beat Kazakhstan’s Natalya Bogdanova and reach the women’s 75kg final, assuring herself at least silver and giving India a second boxer, after Ankush Panghal, in a gold-medal bout at these Games.

Women’s hockey booked their place in the final with a battling 2-0 win over Korea in the semifinal, Ishika Chaudhary and Salima Tete scoring either side of a frustrating first half, to set up a title clash with China on October 2.

In squash, the women’s team beat Singapore 2-0 to reach the semifinals and secure India’s fourth medal of the Games in the sport, while the men’s team beat Kuwait 2-0 to reach their own semifinal and guarantee a medal as well. Squash has been a rich vein for India at these Games, with Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh already carrying home singles silvers and Joshna Chinappa a mixed doubles bronze.

Near Misses and Losses

Judoka Asmita Dey’s day ended without a medal, losing her bronze-medal bout to Mongolia’s Narantsetseg Ganbaatar after fighting back through the repechage. Wrestler Nisha lost her women’s 68kg round-of-16 bout to North Korea’s Park Sol Gum.

In tennis, Dhakshineswar Suresh went down in three sets in the singles third round, and the doubles pair of Anirudh Chandrasekar and Balaji Narayanaswamy lost a match tiebreak in their quarterfinal against China.

Cycling had a quiet day too, with sprinters Ronaldo Singh and David Beckham eliminated in the 1/16 finals despite qualifying inside the top 15, and both Indian riders exiting the women’s keirin in the first round.

Other Results

Sumit Nagal beat Uzbekistan’s Sergey Fomin 6-3, 6-2 to advance in men’s singles tennis. Golfer Saptak Talwar was in touch with the individual medal positions through the day, with India’s men’s team sitting fifth after the opening round. India’s esports campaign ended with a third straight League of Legends defeat, this time to Chinese Taipei.

In canoe slalom, Pallavi Jagtap and Pradhyumna Singh Rathod both progressed to their kayak single finals, while sport climber Deepu Mallesh advanced to the men’s speed quarterfinals after Joga Purty was eliminated in the women’s event. India’s women’s sepak takraw team were eliminated after a 2-1 loss to the Philippines.
