The two-time Olympian finished with 14 points overall, including seven from the final and seven from the qualification races.
She finished behind Thailand’s Sophia Montgomery, who won gold with five points, while Singapore’s Jania Ang took silver with 13.
In sailing, points are awarded according to a competitor’s finishing position in each race, with first place earning one point. The sailor with the lowest overall score wins the regatta.
Kumanan won the second of her two final races and finished sixth in the other. She had previously competed at the 2014, 2018 and 2022 Asiads, ending each of two editions in the agonising fourth position.
In the men’s event, India’s Vishnu Saravanan finished fourth despite taking second place in both of his final races. His qualification score of 17 points left him with an overall tally of 21.
The 27-year-old Saravanan, another Indian Olympian, had secured bronze at the previous edition of the Games.
Korea’s Jeemin Ha won gold in the event with nine points. Hong Kong, China’s Nicholas Halliday claimed silver with 11, while Malaysia’s Mohd Khairulnizam finished next with 14 points.
India also added two medals on Thursday. Manu Francis and Kurisinkal Noble won silver in the men’s skiff competition, while Harshita Tomar and Shital Verma took bronze in the women’s event.
