Ajay Devgn has rewritten his own opening-day record with Drishyam The Conclusion. The Abhishek Pathak directorial has collected Rs. 62.03 crore on its opening day, emerging as the biggest opening-day grosser of Ajay Devgn’s career. The film has comfortably surpassed Singham Again, which previously held the record with Rs. 43.70 crore.
The jump is significant. Drishyam The Conclusion has opened Rs. 18.33 crore higher than Singham Again, translating into a 41.9% increase over Devgn’s previous best. The film has also opened nearly twice as big as Singham Returns, which collected Rs. 32.09 crore on Day 1, while Golmaal Again had recorded Rs. 30.14 crore.
Interestingly, the previous four films at the top of Devgn’s opening-day chart were led by major franchises and commercial entertainers. Singham Again was followed by Singham Returns, Golmaal Again and Total Dhamaal at Rs. 16.50 crore, evident is the dominance of Rohit Shetty collaborations in Devgn’s opening-day record, with his top three openers at the time all being Shetty films.
Drishyam The Conclusion now changes that equation. The film’s Rs. 62.03 crore start is more than four times the opening of Drishyam 2, which had collected Rs. 15.38 crore on Day 1. The sequel went on to become a major box-office success, finishing with Rs. 240.54 crore at the India box office according to Bollywood Hungama.
The new Top 10 also includes Raid 2 at Rs. 19.71 crore, Shaitaan at Rs. 15.21 crore, Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior at Rs. 15.10 crore and Dhamaal 4 at Rs. 13.72 crore. Bollywood Hungama had previously reported Raid 2 as Devgn’s fourth-highest opener at the time of its release.
With Rs. 62.03 crore, Drishyam The Conclusion has therefore delivered a new benchmark for Ajay Devgn on the opening day, with its Day 1 business standing Rs. 18.33 crore ahead of his previous best.
