There is something about watching a movie in a theatre that makes even small distractions feel much bigger.
A phone lighting up in the middle of a dark scene, someone talking through an important dialogue, a person repeatedly kicking the back of your seat or a group laughing loudly at moments that are not even funny can quickly turn a good movie into an irritating experience.
Unlike watching something at home, a theatre is a shared space. Everyone in the room has paid to watch the same film, often after making plans, travelling to the theatre and spending a considerable amount of money. That makes basic courtesy matter more than it may seem.
You do not have to sit completely still or behave like you are in a library. But a few simple rules can make the experience better for everyone.
