Shanaya Kapoor will be seen playing a double role in the upcoming series Student of the Year: After Dark. Director Reema Maya has now spoken about the actor’s preparation for the project, revealing that the team spent considerable time developing the two characters, Aditi and Ayesha, as distinct individuals.
“Shanaya Kapoor was very prepared for her double role in Student of the Year: After Dark,” says director Reema Maya
In a recent interview, Reema said the process involved detailed discussions about the characters’ personalities, motivations, backgrounds and behaviour. The team worked on understanding how their respective life experiences shaped the way they spoke, dressed and interacted with others.
Talking about her experience of working with Shanaya, the director said, “And it was the same process with Shanaya also; it was a lot of in-depth conversations, and it was a lot of clear separation between who Aditi is, who Ayesha is, what motivates each character, what their life history has been so far till they reach the point that the show is set in, what their interpersonal dynamics have been, and why Aditi is the way she is, why does she dresses the way she does, talks the way she does, feels the way she does.”
Reema also explained that the two roles were approached as separate characters rather than variations of the same personality. She praised Shanaya’s preparation and the effort she put into understanding both parts.
“Similarly, for Ayesha and we pretty much treated them as two separate characters and I think Shanaya worked really hard. She was very prepared,” she added.
The double role marks another opportunity for Shanaya to explore a different aspect of her acting. The actor has previously appeared in Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan and Tu Yaa Main. With Student of the Year: After Dark, she will take on the challenge of portraying two characters with different personalities and backstories.
Apart from the series, Shanaya also has projects such as JC and the Telugu film Zombie Reddy: NXT LVL in her lineup. Further details about the release of Student of the Year: After Dark have not been provided in the announcement.
