Amit Trivedi recently had a conversation with Komal Nahta, during which he spoke about the highs and lows of his career. He also made a touching revelation about the much-loved song ‘Zinda’ from Lootera (2013), starring Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha. The composer revealed that the poignant track was born out of a difficult phase in his personal life and was never originally intended for the film.
Amit Trivedi reveals the HEARTBREAKING story behind Lootera’s ‘Zinda’: “I was sad and distraught; I wrote the song for myself”
When asked if there was any song in his discography that held a deeper meaning than listeners might realize, Amit Trivedi replied, “I composed a song called ‘Mujhe Chod Do, Mere Haal Pe, Zinda Hoon Yaar, Kaafi Hain’. I wrote it for a personal life situation. I wrote it for myself.”
When asked whether he had composed the song before beginning work on Lootera, Amit explained, “The film’s work was going on at that time. But I was quite stressed about something. One day, I was quite sad and distraught and sat on the harmonium. I pressed the F-sharp scale on the harmonium and apne aap I sang ‘Mujhe Chod Do, Mere Haal Pe’ that too with the tune. I wondered, ‘Yeh gaana kahan se aa gaya? Accha lag raha hain. Chalo record karo’!”
He continued, “Meanwhile, work on Lootera’s music was going on and I realized that it fits well in the climax. It was not meant for Lootera but it became a part of it.”
At another point, he revealed, “I signed Shakun Batra’s film, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, which was produced by Karan Johar. While working on the film, I asked myself, ‘Yeh kya ho raha hai?’. It was completely contrary to my previous experiences. Until then, I had worked in 5-6 films, including a song in Karan Johar’s Wake Up Sid (2009), that is, ‘Iktara’. Woh gaana bhi one shot tha. Everything was smooth. But during Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, mere nakshatra badal gaye! Every song got bounced. If Shakun would like it, Karan sir won’t like it, and vice versa. Aur mujhe kuch samaj mein nahin aa raha tha!”
