India’s sprinters Animesh Kujur and Gurindervir Singh enjoyed record-scripting performances at the Federation Cup Athletics in Ranchi on Thursday to brake the national 100m record in a matter of mere minutes.
Gurindervir dashed to a 10.17s finish in his semifinal heat of 100m event to break Kujur’s showing from the last year. However, Kujur reclaimed the record with a 10.15s personal best in the second heat.
Singh’s effort to lower the 10.18s mark, set by Kujur in Greece last year, ruled the roost for minutes as Kujur brought the arena to a standstill with a new record in the annals of the sport in the nation.
The meet also serves as the CWG 2026 qualifiers and Animesh breached the qualification mark of 10.16s, but Gurindervir missed out on it by an agonising 0.01s.
The duo, who are under the tutelage of James Hillier and also compete in the 200m event, will head up against each other in the final of the event on Saturday in what is guaranteed to be a competitive field.
The sprinters will look to one-up themselves and the other with the top-spot in the podium and everything that goes with it on the line in the summit clash.
