India’s Anant Jeet Singh Naruka and Parinaaz Dhaliwal clinched the bronze medal in the mixed team skeet event at the Asian Games on Thursday.
The Indian pair finished third with a score of 44 in the final.
They maintained a steady upward trajectory across the six series, progressing from seven in the opening series to 14, 21, 29, 36 and 44.
Anant Jeet and Parinaaz had earlier bagged the final spot after finishing fourth in qualification with an aggregate score of 138.
The bronze swelled India’s shooting tally to eight, four silver and four bronze, at the ongoing Asian Games.
Earlier on Wednesday, India’s men’s and women’s skeet shooting teams bagged two bronze medals at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery.
“We were aggressive. We just kept telling each other to keep fighting. That is what a mixed team is about,” Parinaaz said.
For Anantjeet, 28, the bronze held special significance. The Jaipur-based shooter has won a World Cup Final bronze in Delhi and missed out on an Olympic medal after finishing fourth alongside Maheshwari Chauhan in the mixed team event at Paris 2024.
Yet Thursday’s bronze, Anant said, ranked above those achievements.
“This one ranks highest. In the Olympics you are coming fourth, but if you aren’t standing on the podium, it doesn’t matter. We fought well and got the bronze today,” Anant said.
The bronze capped a brilliant three-medal haul for Indian skeet in just two days, marking an unprecedented run for a discipline that has remained in the shadow of trap and double trap.
It also provided some much-needed cheer for the Indian shooting contingent on a day when the pistol campaign suffered another setback, with the men’s 10m air pistol team failing to send a single shooter into the final and returning without a medal.
For Anant and Parinaaz, the medal meant more than its colour. The former, Bhavtegh Singh Gill and Mairaj Ahmed Khan had already bagged the men’s team bronze on Wednesday, before Parinaaz, Raiza Dhillon and Maheshwari Chauhan added another bronze in the women’s team event later that day.
