Bangladesh’s apparel exports to EU may gain in late 2026: Eurostat

Bangladesh’s apparel exports to the European Union (EU) could regain momentum towards the end of 2026 and in 2027 as the contraction in the bloc’s apparel imports narrows, with Eurostat data showing a year-on-year (YoY) rise in EU import value in August after declines over January-August.

The EU imported apparel worth €60.29 billion (~$67.74 billion) in January-August 2026, down 3.83 per cent from €62.69 billion (~$70.44 billion) in the same period last year. Import volume declined 2.57 per cent, while the average unit price fell 1.29 per cent to €19.65 (~$22.08) per kilogramme from €19.91 (~$22.37) per kilogramme.

Bangladesh’s apparel exports to the EU could regain momentum late in 2026 and in 2027 as the bloc’s import decline narrows, according to the Eurostat data.
EU apparel imports fell 3.83 per cent to €60.29 billion (~$67.74 billion) in January-August; Bangladesh’s shipments dropped 11.67 per cent to €11.93 billion (~$13.40 billion).
August EU import value rose 0.72 per cent year on year.

Bangladesh’s apparel exports to the EU fell more sharply, dropping 11.67 per cent to €11.93 billion (~$13.40 billion) during the period from €13.50 billion (~$15.17 billion) a year earlier, a decline of around €1.58 billion (~$1.78 billion), the Eurostat data showed. Export volume was down 4.58 per cent, while the average unit price decreased 7.43 per cent to €13.76 (~$15.46) per kilogramme from €14.87 (~$16.71) per kilogramme, the local media reported, citing Eurostat data.

For August alone, EU apparel imports showed improvement from a year earlier. Import value rose 0.72 per cent compared with August 2025, despite a 0.57 per cent decline in volume, while the average unit price increased 1.29 per cent.

The figures indicated that Bangladesh’s export value fell more steeply than the overall EU apparel import market, with weaker unit prices accounting for a substantial part of the decline along with reduced shipment volumes.
