The Bihar government has agreed to conduct the fourth phase of the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4) in a single phase following a meeting with student representatives on Thursday. After the meeting, the protesting students unanimously decided to call off their agitation, reported Economic Times.

The meeting was chaired by the Bihar Education Secretary and attended by senior officials, including representatives of the Economic Offences Unit, Education Department, Patna district administration and police. Student representatives also submitted a signed list of their demands.

As part of the agreement, BPSC TRE-4 will be conducted as a single examination. Further recruitment will follow existing rules, including the “one candidate, one result” principle.

The government has also agreed to set up a committee headed by a sitting Patna High Court judge to examine complaints related to the 70th BPSC exam, Bihar Staff Selection Commission examinations, the 1,799 Sub-Inspector recruitment exam and the Bihar Eligibility Test (B.Ed).

Candidates who have raised complaints will be allowed to present their cases and with supporting evidence before the committee. Further action on the Sub-Inspector exam will be taken after the committee submits its report.

The BPSC has been asked to prepare a recruitment calendar and ensure that examinations are conducted according to the announced schedule. The stalled recruitment process for librarians will also be restarted against existing vacancies.

A high-level committee will examine demands for a separate quota and additional weightage for contractual employees in government recruitment. The existing domicile policy will continue in accordance with legal advice, while the proposed maximum age limit for recruitment exams will also be considered.

The committee will also examine measures to improve transparency in question papers, OMR sheets and answer scripts for BPSSC-pattern examinations.

Meanwhile, the Economic Offences Unit is investigating allegations of a paper leak in the AEDO and Sanitary Inspector examinations.

The decisions follow days of protests in Patna over negative marking in the 70th BPSC exam and alleged irregularities in the Sub-Inspector recruitment process.
