China’s railway investment rises 1.8% in January-July 2026

China’s fixed-asset investment in railway construction rose 1.8 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to 440.6 billion yuan (~$65.3 billion) in the first seven months of 2026, with key projects continuing to move forward, according to the national railway operator.

Recent project milestones included the opening of Foshan Station (a major textiles and fabric manufacturing hub) on the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang high-speed railway in south China’s Guangdong Province and full-line testing on the Xi’an-Ankang high-speed railway in northwest China, among others, the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. said in a release.

China’s railway fixed-asset investment reached 440.6 billion yuan (~$65.3 billion) in January-July 2026, up 1.8 per cent year on year.
Key high-speed rail projects advanced in Guangdong and northwest China, signalling continued infrastructure execution.
Exporters, manufacturers and sourcing teams can factor the network build-out into China logistics planning through 2030.

It will continue to advance major railway projects and improve the quality and efficiency of railway investment to support China’s high-quality development.

China has built the world’s largest high-speed railway network. By the end of 2025, the country’s total operating railway mileage had reached 165,000 km, including more than 50,000 km of high-speed rail, the company noted.

China’s operational railway mileage is expected to reach 180,000 km by 2030, including about 60,000 km of high-speed rail.
