Durand Cup winners East Bengal have regained full control of the club as Emami exited its investment role just two days after the triumph, on Tuesday. With this move, all the shares and voting rights held by Emami have been transferred to East Bengal.

But Emami said that it remains committed to the growth and development of Indian football and will continue its association with East Bengal Football Club as a sponsor.

Since the end of the last ISL season, there had been speculation that Emami could withdraw. The company had differences with the club management over certain problems, leading to continued speculation surrounding the future of the East Bengal-Emami partnership, according to a report in Anandabazar Patrika.

“While stepping away from its investment and management role, it will continue its association with East Bengal Club as a sponsor, supporting the Club and its ongoing sporting ambitions,” Emami said in a release on Tuesday.

“The Group remains proud of its association with East Bengal and wishes the Club, its players, officials and supporters continued success in the seasons ahead,” the release added.

Emami’s logo was absent from East Bengal’s red-and-gold jerseys at the start of the current season, further fuelling speculation. But the logo returned to the East Bengal jersey, albeit in a smaller size, during the Durand Cup final.

Ahead of the game, reports emerged that the Emami Group wasn’t ending its association with the club.

Meanwhile, East Bengal’s men’s and women’s teams have qualified for the Champions League. The club also lifted its 17th Durand Cup title on Sunday, August 23.

Edmund Lalrindika scored a brilliant derby hat-trick as a disciplined East Bengal put on a scintillating display to thrash Mohun Bagan 4-1 and lift a record-equalling 17th Durand Cup title in Kolkata on Sunday, August 23.

It ended the Red and Gold’s 22-year wait for the trophy as well, having last won in 2004 with a 2-1 victory over Mohun Bagan.
