Job opportunities in India’s education sector increased by nearly 14% between July 2025 and July 2026, according to a survey released by Indeed, with Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu accounting for the largest shares of education-related job postings during the period.
The data also points to a shift in the nature of hiring. While full-time education-sector job postings grew by nearly 14% over the year, contract positions expanded by almost 40%. Part-time opportunities recorded growth of nearly 28%.
The data also shows a recovery in teaching-related job postings during the period analysed. Teaching postings fell to their lowest level in October 2025 before beginning a steady recovery from January 2026. By July 2026, postings had reached their highest level during the 12-month period, marking nine consecutive months of growth. The trend indicates increasing demand for more flexible staffing arrangements, particularly for specialised roles and changing learning requirements.
The expansion in education hiring was also visible across language-teaching roles. German teaching job postings recorded the highest growth among the languages, rising 22.8% over the year. English teaching postings increased by 20%, while Hindi postings grew 16.7%. French teaching opportunities rose by 8.2%.
Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu Account For Largest Share
Maharashtra had the highest share of education-sector job postings on Indeed as of July 2026, accounting for 14.3% of the total. Tamil Nadu followed closely with 14.2%.
Karnataka accounted for 11.8% of postings, while Kerala contributed 10%. Together, the four states represented more than half of the education-sector job postings analysed.
Uttar Pradesh and Telangana were also among the significant markets, accounting for 6.7% and 6.3% of postings respectively.
