The versatile and talented Manoj Bajpayee turns 55 today. The actor is consistently doing great work and in the last decade, his popularity went through the roof, thanks to the craze for his projects like Gangs Of Wasseypur, The Family Man, Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, etc. The Family Man, especially, helped him connect with the youth and today, he has a fan following among the audience of all ages. His humble beginnings, too, have made his journey special.
EXCLUSIVE: Birthday boy Manoj Bajpayee explains why birthdays don’t excite him anymore; reveals that due to crazy traffic, he stays in a hotel, away from family, even when shooting in Mumbai
Last week, Bollywood Hungama exclusively met him for the success interview of his show, Secrets Of The Buddha Relics. Towards the end, we asked him about his birthday plans. He smiled and joked, “Hum aisi umar mein pahuch chuke hai ki birthday maayne hi nahin rakhta! Hum sochte hai ki ‘Birthday kyun aa raha hai?’!”
Then on a serious note, he revealed, “As you keep moving with age, it becomes quite insignificant for you. Also, if it’s my birthday, my daughter cuts the cake. If it’s my wife’s birthday, my daughter cuts the cake. If it’s my daughter’s birthday, then she cuts the cake (laughs)! So, eventually, it becomes a moment for happiness for the daughter. And we are happy seeing her happy.”
Meanwhile, Manoj Bajpayee is a rare actor who not just acts in projects but is ever ready to give interviews for each of his films and shows. Hence, journalists keep meeting him every now and then. He was also a star attraction at the Amazon Prime Video event, held last month, and at a similar event of ZEE5 which took place in May 2023.
We asked the talented actor how he managed to pack in so much. He explained, “It always depends on how you distribute the time. When I am doing promotions, I am not shooting at all. And when I am shooting, I don’t read a single page of a script coming from anywhere. I am focused on the job in hand. I am not mixing two things together.”
He also shared, “Nowadays, when I shoot in Mumbai, I stay in a hotel. Even my family suggested it. This is due to the traffic; it takes up a lot of time. Most of the unit members ply by metro and local train. Hence, they reach quickly. I can’t do that, and I’ll take two hours to get home by road. If I stay in a hotel, I’ll take only 40 minutes, though on a clear day without traffic, I might take just 15 minutes.”
Producer Shital Bhatia, who was also present for the interview, added, “Having worked with Manoj, I can vouch that he’s in his zone when he’s in front of the camera. Hence, it’s better that he doesn’t go home!” Both Shital and Manoj had a hearty laugh over this statement.
Manoj Bajpayee signed off by saying, “I am fortunate that I am getting to be a part of such great stories. But I can’t do two things at a time. I am not a multi-tasker. It’s really difficult for me. For instance, if I am shooting and someone wants to do a Zoom interview with me for something else, it jolts me very badly. If someone, who’s not a part of the unit, has come to meet me and sitting in a van, his presence disturbs me.”
