Google has opened applications for its US Public Policy Fellowship for Summer 2026. The programme offers students a paid opportunity to work with public interest organisations in Washington DC on internet and technology policy issues. The last date to apply is April 9, 2026, at 12 pm ET.
The Google Public Policy Fellowship gives students interested in internet and technology policy a chance to spend the summer working on these issues with organisations based in Washington DC. Selected fellows will work closely with experts and contribute to discussions around technology policy and regulation.
During the fellowship, participants will be assigned a lead mentor at a host organisation. They will also have the opportunity to work with senior staff members and gain exposure to policy work. Fellows may be involved in tasks such as conducting policy research and analysis, drafting reports and white papers, attending government and industry meetings and conferences, and participating in advocacy activities.
Who Can Apply
Students from any academic discipline can apply for the fellowship. However, applicants should show a strong interest in internet and technology policy and must have a good academic record along with strong research, analytical, communication and writing skills.
To be eligible, candidates must be enrolled in or accepted into an accredited institution by August 30, 2026. This includes undergraduate, master’s and PhD programmes at colleges and universities. Students can be enrolled either full time or part time. Applicants must also be at least 18 years old by January 1, 2026. Previous Google Policy Fellows are not eligible to apply.
Stipend
Host organisations will offer fellows a stipend of $12,000 USD, which is approximately Rs 10 lakh, for full time participation of 40 hours per week. For part time participation of 20 hours per week, fellows will receive $6,000 USD, which is around Rs 5 lakh.
The stipend will be paid by the host organisation and is subject to satisfactory evaluation and completion of all required administrative and enrollment forms. Fellows will also be responsible for any applicable local, state or federal taxes related to the stipend.

International Students
International students are eligible to apply for the fellowship. However, they must have the required authorisation to work in the country where the fellowship is offered. Google has stated that it cannot assist applicants in obtaining work authorisation documents, so international students must ensure they meet the eligibility requirements before applying.
Programme Timeline
The Summer 2026 fellowship will run from June to August 2026. Google recommends that fellows work in person in Washington DC, although the final decision on remote participation will be taken by the host organisations.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis by the host organisations. Google has advised candidates to apply early as some organisations may select fellows before the deadline.
Applicants will not receive a confirmation email after submitting their application. Host organisations will directly contact shortlisted candidates.
Candidates should be willing to work either full time for 40 hours per week or part time for 20 hours per week, depending on the requirements of the host organisation. Applicants can apply to a maximum of two host organisations through the application available at google.com/policyfellowship/usa.
