Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey has filed a complaint with Delhi Police against HI officials, alleging criminal breach of trust, theft, and wrongful abandonment.

Hockey India (HI) president and former India captain Dilip Tirkey has lodged a complaint with Delhi Police against several HI officials, accusing them of ‘criminal breach of trust, theft, endangerment of life and wrongful abandonment’, escalating the ongoing power struggle within the national federation.
Tirkey’s complaint seeks the immediate recovery of his personal belongings and documents. The office of the DCP, South Delhi, confirmed receiving the complaint but said no FIR has been registered so far.
The complaint names former Hockey India Executive Director Cdr R K Srivastava, Finance Manager Subodh Kumar, Director Bhushan Kumar and federation driver Harminder Singh. Notably, Srivastava was removed from his position by Tirkey following the dispute over India’s saffron jersey during the recent FIH World Cup.
According to PTI, Tirkey was in Delhi on an official visit on September 22 and was provided a HI official vehicle as part of the usual protocol. The vehicle was later recalled by the federation, allegedly while Tirkey’s personal belongings were still inside.
Among the items left in the vehicle was reportedly a bag containing his essential medicines. Tirkey is said to have repeatedly contacted Hockey India officials seeking the return of the vehicle and his belongings, but the calls allegedly went unanswered.
The dispute runs deep
Tirkey’s complaint comes amid an escalating dispute with HI secretary general Bhola Nath Singh over administrative decisions and meeting procedures. The tensions intensified after the Indian team’s jersey colour was changed to saffron ahead of the World Cup in the Netherlands and Belgium. Tirkey has maintained that the change was made without his consent.
The internal dispute also spilled into an emergency Executive Board meeting scheduled for September 18. Tirkey objected to the meeting, claiming it had not received his sanction and was therefore illegal. The meeting nevertheless went ahead, with discussions including the restructuring of the Hockey India League, election dates and the proposed creation of a separate joint venture company involving franchise equity.
The meeting also discussed a new Governing Council for the HIL, the show-cause notice issued by Tirkey to Srivastava and arrangements for the upcoming Asian Champions Trophy in Mohali and Jalandhar.
