Neeraj Chopra qualified for the 2026 Diamond League Final in Brussels despite limited participation

India’s javelin throw superstar Neeraj Chopra has confirmed his place in the 2026 Diamond League Final. He’s made the final alongside the in-form Rumesh Pathirage, Anderson Peters, Keshorn Walcott, Curtis Thompson and Julius Yego.

On Thursday, Pathirage continued his impressive run in the ongoing season with another 90m-plus effort as he won the Zurich Diamond League with an effort of 92.07m. He thus became just the fourth-ever javelin thrower in history to breach the 92m mark more than once.

Chopra, a two-time Olympic medallist, skipped three of the five Diamond League meets in the calendar year including the latest in Zurich.

However, Chopra finished sixth in the Diamond League javelin standings with 12 points- enough to earn a place in the six-man final despite competing in only two meetings this season.

The Diamond League Final will be held in Brussels on September 4 and 5.

While Chopra will back himself for another Diamond League title, Zurich was just the latest example of just the competitive landscape around him is changing.

Sri Lanka’s Pathirage continues to the man to beat this year having earlier won the CWG gold and following it up with victories in Diamond Leagues in Lausanne and Zurich.

While Chopra skipped Zurich meet, he took part in Lausanne. There, he threw 88.05m to finish second, with Pathirage taking the victory at 88.14m.

Chopra had earlier finished fourth at the 2026 Doha Diamond League in June from where he collected five points.
