Former WWE Champion Kaitlyn has revealed why police arrested her backstage at a SmackDown taping in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 2012. The reason was a speeding ticket she got around six months earlier, which she forgot to deal with because she was going through a very hectic time. This unpaid ticket ultimately resulted in an arrest warrant, and police came to the WWE show to take her into custody. Kaitlyn recently explained the incident in an Instagram post, recalling that she was handcuffed before the matter was resolved. She was bailed out later and met Triple H to discuss a public statement.
Kaitlyn reveals why police arrested her backstage at WWE SmackDown
Kaitlyn’s arrest was not related to anything that happened inside WWE. It started with a speeding ticket she received while in Grand Rapids, Michigan, roughly six months before the SmackDown taping.
The former Divas Champion explained the reason directly in her Instagram post.
“Because I had a warrant from a speeding ticket that I had gotten when I was in Grand Rapids six months earlier,” Kaitlyn said.
Her busy schedule made the ticket slip her mind, but the matter turned into a warrant at some point. Police then arrested her backstage at the WWE event, and she was put in handcuffs.
Kaitlyn said the issue was sorted out in the end, and she got released on bail. She also had to sit down with Triple H after her release. The two talked about a statement WWE could put out, because speculation about the reason for her arrest was already going around online.
Kaitlyn left WWE in 2014 before returning for the Mae Young Classic
Kaitlyn asked WWE to release her from her contract in January 2014. During her first run, she won the Divas Championship and had a major feud with AJ Lee.
She came back to WWE in 2018 for the Mae Young Classic, four years after leaving the company. Kaitlyn made it to the second round before losing to Mia Yim in a result considered one of the tournament’s biggest shocks.
Her next WWE appearance came during the RAW Reunion episode in 2019. That remains her last WWE appearance, although fans have continued to call for her inclusion in the Women’s Royal Rumble match. What happens next depends on Kaitlyn and WWE. Stay tuned for more updates.
