The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has introduced a new Executive Programme for Chief of Staff through its Continuing Education Programme (CEP), aimed at professionals looking to develop skills in strategic leadership, decision-making, stakeholder management and business execution.
The seven-month programme will be delivered online, allowing working professionals to participate alongside their existing careers. It is intended for graduates seeking to move into strategic leadership positions that involve working closely with senior executives and coordinating initiatives across different functions.
According to IIT Delhi, the programme will cover areas including executive leadership support, strategic thinking, stakeholder management, organisational alignment, business transformation, project execution and decision-making frameworks. It will also introduce participants to technology-driven approaches for addressing complex business challenges.
The learning format will combine live expert-led sessions, case discussions, practical frameworks and assignments. Participants will also undertake a capstone project designed to provide an opportunity to apply the concepts covered during the programme to business situations.
The programme comes as the Chief of Staff role gains importance within organisations, with professionals in these positions increasingly involved in translating leadership priorities into actionable plans, coordinating cross-functional teams and supporting strategic decision-making.
An optional campus immersion at IIT Delhi will also be available, giving participants an opportunity to interact with faculty and peers and experience the institute’s academic environment.
The programme is being coordinated by Prof. Sanjay Dhir, Professor of Strategic Management in the Department of Management Studies at IIT Delhi, and Prof. Sonali Jain, Associate Professor of Finance in the same department.
Commenting on the programme, the coordinators said the Chief of Staff position requires professionals to combine strategic thinking with leadership and operational capabilities.
“In today’s dynamic organisational landscape, leaders require professionals who can bridge strategy and execution, enable cross-functional collaboration, and support informed decision-making. The role of a Chief of Staff demands a unique combination of strategic perspective, leadership capability, and operational effectiveness. This programme aims to provide professionals with structured frameworks and practical insights to develop these capabilities and contribute effectively to organisational growth,” according to the coordinators.
