India added a silver medal to its tally in the women’s 10m air rifle team event at the ongoing ISSF World Championships on Tuesday, after the men’s trio clinched gold in the 50m pistol competition.

The Indian team of Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Uttam Maskar and Shambhavi Shravan Kshirsagar finished second with a combined score of 1894.4 points, behind champions China, who amassed 1899.8. Japan took bronze with 1892.6 points.

Elavenil led the Indian charge with 634.2 points, while Sonam and Shambhavi scored 630.5 and 629.7, respectively.

Elavenil also qualified for the individual final after finishing third in the qualification round, putting herself in contention for a medal and India’s first Olympic quota place at the championships.

However, she could not convert her qualification performance into a podium finish, settling for sixth place with 167.3 points.

Earlier, Ravinder Singh, Saurabh Chaudhary and Amanpreet Singh secured the men’s 50m pistol team gold for India.

Ravinder also claimed silver in the individual event, which is not part of the Olympic programme. He was India’s highest scorer with 559 points, including 11 inner 10s. Saurabh, a multiple-time World Cup gold medallist, contributed 551, while Amanpreet added 549 as India finished with a combined score of 1659.

China’s Zhang Bingchen, Lyu Junyi and Feng Linlang took silver with 1648 points, while South Korea’s Hong Suhyeon, Choe Boram and So Seung Seob secured bronze with 1643.

In the individual competition, Russia’s Anton Aristarkhov won gold with 561 points, while Romania’s Luca Joldea took bronze with 558.

Meanwhile, Rakesh Mane, Himanshu Dhillon and Paarth Makhija failed to qualify for the team and individual finals of the men’s 10m air rifle event.
