India’s WPI inflation eases to 9.78% in July 2026



India’s all-commodities Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation eased to 9.78 per cent year on year in July 2026 from 9.87 per cent in June 2026, while the all-commodities index stood at 110.0 in July against 110.2 in June, according to provisional estimates from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

For textile and apparel supply chains tracking factory-gate and input-cost signals, manufactured products inflation rose to 8.29 per cent in July from 7.48 per cent in June. The manufactured products index increased to 108.4 in July from 107.8 in June.

Manufactured products inflation rose to 8.29 per cent from 7.48 per cent, with its index reaching 108.4. Primary articles inflation increased to 8.52 per cent, while fuel and power inflation moderated sharply to 20.05 per cent.

Primary articles inflation was 8.52 per cent in July compared with 7.0 per cent in June, with the index at 117.2 against 116.1.

Fuel and power inflation was 20.05 per cent in July compared with 27.41 per cent in June, while its index fell to 105.4 from 111.1.

The Government of India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Office of the Economic Adviser said mineral oils containing petroleum products, food articles, manufacture of basic metals, non-food articles, manufacture of food products, and manufacture of chemicals and chemical products were major drivers of WPI inflation in July 2026.

The WPI Food Index, which carries a weight of 24.99 per cent and comprises food articles from the primary articles group and manufacture of food products from manufactured products, recorded year-on-year inflation of 6.65 per cent in July 2026, compared with 6.14 per cent in June 2026.

The final WPI index for May 2026 was revised to 110.1 from the provisional estimate of 109.9. Accordingly, WPI inflation for May was revised to 9.88 per cent from the provisional estimate of 9.68 per cent. The final estimate for May was compiled with a weighted response rate of 98.14 per cent, while the provisional estimate for July was compiled with a weighted response rate of 78.55 per cent.

The data in the release showed the all-commodities WPI at 103.1 in February 2026, 104.6 in March, 108.9 in April, 110.1 in May, 110.2 in June and 110.0 in July. Primary articles moved from 111.6 in February to 117.2 in July, food articles from 113.1 to 118.2, non-food articles from 107.3 to 112.6, minerals from 112.0 to 125.4, and fuel and power from 89.0 to 105.4 over the same period.
